“He can go as far as he wants to” | Diego Simeone retains faith in João Félix

Diego Simeone today spoke on João Félix in his Pre-Sevilla press conference, tipping the Portuguese wonderkid to “go far if he wants to.”

João’s €126 million move to Atlético Madrid from SL Benfica has been marred by injuries and inconsistency so far this season, with João showing glimpses of his brilliance in the matches he has played.

“He started with great enthusiasm…He had two injuries that took him out of that continuity.”

Félix has started just 16 La Liga matches and has missed a total of 10 games across both the league and Champions League with a sprained ankle and then a leg injury.

“He is looking for that continuity in the team again, that continuity we all need and expect from him…Hopefully he gets to where he suggested he could, because in the case of young boys it is a consequence of where one wants to go. If he wants to go far, he can.”

João Félix and Atléti host Sevilla tomorrow at 15:00, before travelling to Anfield to take on European Champions Liverpool in the 2nd leg. Los Colchoneros take to Liverpool a 1-0 lead.
