Primeira Liga Match Set to Have Fans in Stadium

CD Santa Clara v Gil Vicente is scheduled to be the first Primeira Liga match of the 2020/21 season to have fans in the stadium.

It will be the first time supporters are permitted entry to a football stadium for a professional match since March and it will work as a pilot game.

The Direção Regional de Saúde (DRS) approved the presence of the public in the stadium, allowing a maximum amount of 10% of the total capacity of the venue, meaning 1,000 people will be allowed to spectate in the Estádio de São Miguel.

In a statement released by Santa Clara, the club said:
“Santa Clara Açores, Futebol SAD and Liga Portugal congratulate the decision made by DRS. Portuguese football has been exemplary in the gradual process of returning to possible normality. We are fully convinced that this could be a historic step for our Sports Society, for the Liga Portugal and for Portuguese football in general. We also take the opportunity to highlight the role of football as a phenomenon of social cohesion. Furthermore, we take the opportunity to highlight the role of football as a vehicle for promoting tourism in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.”
