15,032 spectators came out to watch SL Benfica take on Sporting CP at the Estádio da Luz in the quarter-final of the Taça de Portugal Feminina, breaking the record for most spectators at an official women’s match in Portugal. The previous attendance record of 14,221 was recorded last year in a match between the same opponents.
Benfica forward Jéssica Silva spoke after the match saying: “I’m very happy, playing here (at Estádio da Luz) is very special. Once again we broke the attendance record, but we want more!”.
Silva was vocal on social media before the match, urging supporters to come along and support from the stands. After the Benfica v Sporting match in the Primeira Liga, Silva tweeted I would really like for our 62,000 supporters yesterday to know that next Saturday at 3pm, there is a derby at the Luz again! 🙂 before going on to engage with supporters who sent screenshots of their tickets, thanking them for their support.
Benfica ran out 5-0 winners thanks to a brace each from Jéssica Silva and Ana Vitória and a goal from Christy Ucheibe.
