The Best Season Yet: Vizela Break Their Points Record

Thanks to their 3-1 win over Casa Pia on Saturday, Vizela now have 35 points – their most in a Primeira Liga season.

The Vizelenses are currently disputing their third season in the Portuguese top flight and they continue to make improvements season after season. Their first campaign came in 1984/85 – where they picked up just 15 points and finished rock bottom of the league.

The 2021/22 season marked a return to the top flight of Portuguese football after a 36-year absence and the club managed to stave off relegation, picking up 33 points and finishing in 14th position.

Looking up, not down

This season however has been their best yet at this level. Tulipa’s side have already beaten last season’s points tally of 33 – despite having eight more games left to play. They currently sit in eighth position, closer in points to the European places than to the relegation zone.

More encouragement for Vizela is that of their remaining eight fixtures, five come against teams who currently sit below them in the league table and they do not face any more trips away to the top four clubs.
