Thanks to their 1-0 win in Vila do Conde against Rio Ave on Sunday, Vitória SC have guaranteed their presence in European competition for the second season in a row.
Moreno’s side are currently in fifth position on 50 points, should they finish the season in this position they will enter the UEFA Europa Conference League at the third qualifying round stage, the round they were eliminated at this season. Should they slip to sixth place they will enter the competition at the second qualifying round. GD Chaves who sit in 7th could also overtake Vitória but the Trás-os-Montes side confirmed recently that they will not be competing in European competition next season.
This achievement marks the first time they have qualified for Europe in consecutive seasons since 1995/96 to 1998/99 when they qualified for the UEFA Cup four years in a row.
The Guimarães outfit will be hoping they can perform better in Europe next season after being eliminated at the UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round by Hajduk Split this season.
With the Dutch Eredivisie overtaking Portugal in the UEFA coefficient list largely down to their performances in the Europa League and Conference League, Liga Portugal will be hoping that their representatives in these two competitions can go far, especially the club who finishes fourth and who will qualify directly for the UEFA Europa League group stage.
